African doctors may get opportunity to train in India

In order to enhance cooperation with African countries in the health sector, the Government is working on a proposal to provide training to African doctors in India.

The proposal is currently awaiting clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs, sources in the Health Ministry said.

The sources said that under the programme, doctors from Africa can appear for examinations under the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for skill upgradation.

The NBE is a body under the Health Ministry which conducts examinations for upgradation of skills of doctors who practice in hospitals which do not have medical colleges.

India is already providing some kind of training and help to African countries through a telemedicine programme which was launched by former President A P J Abdul Kalam.
